The Design Process

by Kristin Glenn April 28, 2015

This winter, for the first time ever, I hired a designer to work with on our new 2015 design (still unnamed - you can see it here). I’ve been really excited about bringing on someone with expertise, who knows fabrics and design in a way that I simply don’t (yet!). She’s really pushed me to think more about you guys - who you are, what you want from your clothing, and how we can make the best pieces for you. It’s been an experiment in ultimate thoughtfulness.

Kristin Dedorson

This is Kristin (yes, another one!). We started working together in January. She’s also a recent transplant to NYC (from Sweden) and has worked in fashion for over 10 years. She illustrates beautifully. She knows technical design. And she’s helping me catapult my initial idea (a jacket with zip-off/reversible sleeves) into something more robust, functional, and suited to the #seamlygal.   Here are a few peeks at the process. Voting is open this week, so let us know what you like, what you don’t, what changes you’d make, and what colors you’d prefer!

GIVE US FEEDBACK ON THE NEW STYLE!

1/2. Going through swatches before deciding on a final style. 3. Swatches from a Colorado-company producing fair trade fabrics in Mexico and China. 4. Kristin's first ideas. 5. Walking the Garment Center to showrooms on a snowy day, in search of USA-made fabrics. 6. Organic cotton from North Carolina.
