Meet the Judges!

by Kristin Glenn June 04, 2015

We're currently in the middle of a #Versalette Challenge! READ HERE for more on what that means. It's not too late to join!

--- One of the best parts of the #Versalette Challenge is the judges. It's the best excuse for me to rope in friends and acquaintances working on really cool projects, and be able to share their stories here on the blog. Another major perk is rounding up our grand prize, which this year includes a few wonderful extras: Versalette-Challenge-Prize

Seamly.co gift card, Quantity/Quality print from Jenny Highsmith, MONOLITH necklace and TRIAD earrings from Native Clutter

On to the judges. This summer, three ladies will choose our winner for the #Versalette challenge. A huge, major thanks to them for a) their own inspiring USA-made work and b) saying YES to joining us! (It's not an easy job, trust me.) Here they are!

Steph Stout | Designer + Founder, Native Clutter

Steph-Stout

If you've been following Seamly.co for awhile, you know I'm totally obsessed with my former studiomate's work and lifestyle: Steph from Native Clutter. Steph designs super versatile jewelry that goes with anything I wear, literally anytime. She sources authentic stones and utilizes vintage components when possible, hand-crafting each piece in Denver. Steph will be joining in on the #Versalette Challenge for fun, so you'll see her posting from her crafty, #makerbabe personal Instagram account, @makesthethings (where she documents what she's making, from sewing up neon lingerie to weekender bags to knitting hats and sweaters). Steph will generously be gifting the winner with a MONOLITH necklace and TRIAD earrings from Native Clutter. Follow her on Instagram at @nativeclutter (and personally, at @makesthethings) and check out her shop of Southwestern-inspired jewels.

Jesse Syswerda | Designer + Founder, Eenvoud

Jesse

(Jesse was an early supporter of the Versalette, and received one of our "original" Versalettes from Kickstarter. Since then, we've kept in loose touch, and now we're studio-mates in Brooklyn!) Jesse is the founder of Eenvoud, a minimalistic and sustainably conscious womenswear label, made in NYC. She recently saw MAJOR success on Kickstarter, launching her first designs and raising over $20,000 to produce them. She's a firm believer in buying less and buying better, and her designs reflect that: they're everyday, simple-yet-elegant, and made with sustainable materials like hemp and cupro. You can follow Jesse's production and process on her Instagram, @eenvoudny, Facebook, and get on her mailing list at Eenvoud. We've also got a blog post about her Kickstarter campaign here!

Julia Ahrens | Co-Founder + CEO, Miakoda

Julia-Ahrens

Like lots of things, I found Julia and her vegan-and-organic clothing company, Miakoda, on Instagram (@miakodanewyork). I stalked her for awhile, and when I moved to Brooklyn we finally connected in person. Julia (who co-founded Miakoda with her sister, a NY-based yogi) is committed to mindful materials and production. All of her pieces are sewn in NYC, using organic cotton, hemp, bamboo, and soy. Miakoda's offerings are definitely yoga-inspired (they even have hand-made mala bracelets available) and I've seen them in person - wonderfully made with care. You can follow Julia at @miakodany on Instagram, Facebook, and shop the store here!

We've still got a several more days left in the #Versalette Challenge (until June 20th, 2015, at midnight) so join us if you haven't already! If you want to see what it's all about, search #versalette on Instagram or read more here.
